The CJS Hub is a simple idea, done properly. We help people make sense of the criminal justice system, one clear step at a time. If you, or someone in your family, has just had contact with the police, is waiting on a decision, or has a court date coming up, or who is already in custody or serving a community based sentence then this is where you’ll find calm, reliable guidance in everyday language. We’re a Community Interest Company, so our focus is public good, not clicks or politics. No scare stories, no campaigning, just straight answers.
This service is for defendants, partners, parents, and anyone trying to support a loved one. If you feel overwhelmed, lost in jargon, or unsure what to do next, you’re in the right place. We won’t tell you what to think. We’ll show you what the process looks like, what your options are, and where you can sensibly put your effort now.
Here you will find short guides that match where you’re up to, from first contact with police through interview, bail, charging decisions, magistrates’ court, Crown Court, sentencing, prison, community service life after a case and much much more. Each guide explains the key steps, common pitfalls, simple prep you can do, and what “good” looks like from the authorities. Wherever possible, we include checklists, plain-English templates, and examples so you’re not starting from scratch. We also signpost to specialist help when you need it and reputable solicitors where legal advice is required. For wellbeing and coping day to day, we will also point you to well being services.
The best place to start on our website after you have checked in with the self-care section is the free guide section. With an abundance of free guides we have most bases covered. If you can’t find what you are looking for then click the contact us button at the bottom of each page and don’t be afraid to drop us a message.
We are neutral, accurate, and practical. We translate the rules and guidance into plain English, and we keep things balanced. We’re not here to attack, defend, or score points. We’re here to help you understand what should happen, what often happens in practice, and how to prepare well without making things worse. Where the law uses jargon, we explain it. Where timeframes are slow, we say so. Where something is out of your hands, we’ll help you focus on what is in your control.
We’re not a law firm and we don’t replace legal advice. You can tell us as much or as little as you like and we will do our best to guide you on the information you provide. If you need a solicitor, we’ll help you understand what you need them for, what to ask them and we will point you in the right direction of solicitors who are reputable and right for your case. Where you are eligible for legal and and want legal aid services (if available for your matter) we will make sure that the solicitors that we point you to have a legal aid contract. If you’re already represented, our guides help you organise yourself, understand your options, and make good use of your lawyer’s time.
We don’t do politics or activism. We don’t run shock headlines. We keep things confidential and steer you away from risky actions online. If you’re struggling, the self-care pages include practical steps and proper signposting. If you’re in immediate crisis, contact local services or Samaritans on 116 123.
